First Combat Robots

I had joined the MIT Combat Robotics Club during the spring of my sophomore year, and got to work designing and making 3 lb combat robots.

My first combat robot I began designing with another person in the club, it was a big wheeled vertical spinner. The robot never ended up competing, as my teammate ended up leaving the club, so I began to individually design my own combat robot. Although the robot never fought, I learned a lot about the basics from the bot, especially when trying and often failing with the electronics.

My actual first combat robot that I designed and competed with was called Applesauce, since it was waterjet from parts of an Apple computer

I designed the robot to be similar to the Tombstone battlebot, a large two wheeled horizontal spinning robot. I scavenged a lot of parts for this robot, with all the electronics and chassis parts having been found at the MIT Electronic Research Society or in the club room. It utilizes a 800kv 2826 Propdrive for the weapon, and it transfers torque via a GT2 belt using some 3D printed pulleys. The biggest weakness of this robot was the wheels falling off since I didn't know about wheel hubs and had 3D printed, which didn't work very well.
